Minimum System Requirements for Managed Technical Support & Patch Management
To provide reliable, secure, and effective IT support, North Valley Technology Solutions requires all managed systems to meet the minimum standards outlined below. These requirements help ensure devices remain compatible with current software, receive critical security updates, and can be monitored and maintained remotely.
Supported Operating Systems
All managed endpoints must be running a vendor-supported operating system, including:
- Windows 10 (22H2 or later)*
- Windows 11
- Windows Server 2019 or newer
- macOS versions currently supported by Apple
*Operating systems that have reached End of Life (EOL) are not eligible for managed support or routine patch management unless otherwise agreed upon in writing.
Hardware Requirements
Managed devices should meet the following minimum specifications:
- Dual-core 64-bit processor or better
- Minimum 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
- At least 20 GB of available disk space
- Healthy storage device with no known SMART or hardware failures
- Functional network connectivity (wired or wireless)
Systems that do not meet these requirements may experience degraded performance and are not guaranteed to receive full support.
Internet Connectivity
Devices must maintain a reliable internet connection sufficient to:
- Receive operating system and application updates
- Communicate with remote monitoring and management tools
- Allow secure remote access for troubleshooting
- Transmit backup and security telemetry when applicable
Remote Management Agent
Managed devices must have the North Valley Technology Solutions remote monitoring and management (RMM) agent installed and operational. Removal, tampering, or disabling of the management agent may result in suspension of managed services until restored.
Supported Software
Clients are responsible for maintaining properly licensed software. North Valley Technology Solutions supports software that is:
- Currently supported by the software vendor
- Properly licensed
- Compatible with the operating system
- Free from known malware or unauthorized modifications
Legacy or unsupported applications may require best-effort support or project-based remediation.
Patch Management
Patch management services include the deployment of approved operating system and supported third-party application updates. To ensure successful patching:
- Devices must remain powered on during scheduled maintenance windows.
- Devices should connect to the internet regularly.
- Required system restarts must be permitted to complete installation of critical updates.
- Devices offline for extended periods may fall out of compliance until reconnected.
Emergency security updates may be deployed outside of normal maintenance windows when necessary to address actively exploited vulnerabilities.
Antivirus and Endpoint Security
Where endpoint protection services are included, clients agree not to disable or uninstall the managed security software. Devices found without active protection may be considered out of compliance and may be excluded from support until remediated.
Unsupported Devices
The following systems are generally excluded from managed support unless specifically covered by a separate agreement:
- End-of-life operating systems
- Jailbroken or rooted mobile devices
- Consumer Internet of Things (IoT) devices
- Hardware with known failures or manufacturer support expiration
- Personally owned devices not enrolled in the managed service program
Client Responsibilities
Clients are expected to:
- Notify North Valley Technology Solutions of hardware or software changes.
- Maintain valid software licensing.
- Provide administrative access when required.
- Keep devices connected to power and the internet during maintenance windows.
- Maintain appropriate physical security of managed equipment.
Compliance
Devices that do not meet these minimum requirements may be excluded from proactive monitoring, automated patch management, cybersecurity protections, and standard technical support until they are brought into compliance.
